😌 First, a Message Is Not a Problem
Many people see an "Unknown Part" or display message after a screen repair. That alone is normal. Apple says these messages don't affect your ability to use your iPhone. Learn more in iPhone "Unknown Part" Message After a Repair.
This guide is about real symptoms: restarts, heat, drain, touch issues, and missing True Tone. Here's what each one usually points to.
🔄 Restarts, Often Every 3 Minutes
If the phone reboots on a steady timer, often around every three minutes, iOS is usually restarting itself because it lost contact with a sensor. On many models, those sensors sit on the charging-port cable, the power-button cable or the battery, which a screen or battery job can unseat.
The crash leaves a log called panic-full that helps point to the cause. Steps are below. More detail is in iPhone Restarting Every 3 Minutes.
Phone frozen? Force restart it first. Steps by model: iPhone 8, SE (2nd and 3rd gen), and Face ID models, iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, iPhone 6s, SE (1st gen), and older. If your buttons don't work, you can restart without buttons.
🔥 Heat and Battery Drain
Apple lists battery drain and display issues among the things that can happen with non-Apple displays. On iPhones that came with an OLED screen (X, XS, 11 Pro, and 12 and later), a budget LCD replacement can draw more power than the screen your phone came with. A pinched cable or a loose shield can also cause heat.
Check Settings > Battery. If Display uses far more than before, the panel may be the cause. See iPhone Battery Draining Fast?.
👆 Ghost Touch and Dead Spots
Ghost touch means the screen taps by itself. Apple lists missed touches, wrong-spot touches, and edge touches as possible issues with non-Apple displays.
It can come from the panel, a pinched cable, or a case pressing on the edge. Take off the case and screen protector first. If it keeps happening, the part may need replacing.
🌈 No True Tone or Auto-Brightness
Since iOS 18.1, Apple lets True Tone turn on with non-Apple screens without any programming (iPhone 8 and later), though the color may be less exact than Apple's. Auto-brightness is different: LCD replacement screens usually don't support it, while OLED replacements can keep it. LCD replacements also usually run at 60 Hz, so a ProMotion phone loses its 120 Hz smoothness.
Check Settings > Display & Brightness. On iPhone 8 and later, if True Tone is missing, ask the shop what screen they used. Our tiers are explained in Parts Quality Guide.
Watch Out For Extreme Prices (My Opinion)
If you were sold a thicker LCD-style replacement screen (the economy type) and paid over $200, you probably got taken advantage of. Across every iPhone model I fix, my LCD screens cost well under that, installed. If a quote seems high, call or text me for a second opinion. – Steve
📨 Send Us Your Panic Log
A panic log is a short report the phone saves each time it crashes. It often names the part that caused the restart. Follow our step-by-step guide: How To Find And Send Your iPhone Panic Log.
