iPhone How-To Guide • DiagnosticsIf your iPhone keeps restarting by itself, it is leaving clues. Each crash saves a short report. Here is how to find it and send it to me.
Works on: Any iPhone on iOS 16 or later. On iOS 15 and older, the menu is called Privacy instead of Privacy & Security. The rest is the same.
How To Find And Send Your Panic Log
- Open Settings.
- Tap Privacy & Security.
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Analytics & Improvements.
- Tap Analytics Data.
- Scroll down to the P section. The list is in A to Z order. Look for files that start with panic-full and a date. You will see a long list of oddly named files. That is normal, and you don't need to read them.
- Tap the newest one. Its date should match the last restart.
- Tap the Share button (a square with an arrow pointing up) at the top.
- Tap Mail.
- Send it to steve@franchittisfix.com. Add your phone model and what happens right before it restarts.
These Files Are Safe To Send
The file names and text look technical, but they are crash reports. They don't contain your photos, messages, or passwords.
What Happens Next
I'll take a free look at the log and tell you the likely cause. Pricing and next steps happen by call or text at (720) 413-8150.
Tips If It Gets Tricky
- It restarts before you can finish. Start the steps right after it restarts. You can also turn on Airplane Mode and unplug everything, which often buys more time.
- No panic-full file. Write down the times it restarts, then call or text me.
- Analytics Data is empty. Go back one screen and turn on Share iPhone Analytics (called Share iPhone & Watch Analytics if you have an Apple Watch). Then wait for the next restart and check again.
Phone frozen instead of restarting? Force restart it first: iPhone 8, SE (2nd/3rd gen) and Face ID models, iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, or iPhone 6s, SE (1st gen) and older.
