Guide 1b · Restart & Recovery
iPhone How-To Guide • RestartiPhone 7 frozen? Its Home button is not a real button, so the restart trick uses the volume down button instead. It takes about 10 seconds and keeps your data safe.
Works on: iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. If you have a different iPhone, the buttons are different, so use the guide for your model.
How To Force Restart
- Find the side button on the right and the volume down button on the left.
- Press and hold both buttons at the same time.
- Keep holding while the screen goes dark. Let go when the Apple logo shows up, about 10 seconds or a bit longer.
If It Still Won't Turn On
- Plug it into a charger you trust and wait one hour. Then try the steps again.
- If you see the Apple logo but it never finishes starting, the phone may need recovery mode. That uses a computer. See our recovery mode guide for your model.
- Side button broken? Try restarting without buttons.
