Guide 1f · Restart & Recovery
iPhone How-To Guide • RecoveryStuck on the Apple logo or in a restart loop? If your iPhone has iOS 27, it has a built-in rescue menu. You don't need a computer for most of it.
Works on: iPhones that can run iOS 27: iPhone 11 and newer, and iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation). Older phones: use recovery mode for iPhone 8, X, XS and XR, iPhone 7, or iPhone 6s and older.
Step 1: Open iOS Recovery
- Turn the phone off. If it won't turn off, force restart it, then turn it off.
- Unplug it from any charger.
- Press and hold the side button. Keep holding.
- Let go when you see "Continue holding for recovery" and then "Loading recovery options."
Don't see that screen? Your phone may not be on iOS 27 yet. Call or text me, or use the recovery mode guide with a computer.
Step 2: Try The Options In This Order
- Recovery Assistant. It tries to fix startup problems over Wi-Fi. Needs your passcode and Wi-Fi.
- Software Update. It updates the phone using another iPhone or iPad nearby. Needs your passcode.
- Diagnostics Mode. It runs checks on the phone over Wi-Fi.
- Recovery Mode. This one needs a computer. Choose Update on the computer, not Restore.
To leave iOS Recovery, tap the power button on the screen.
Last Resort: Options That Erase Your Phone
Warning: Erase All Content and Settings deletes everything on the phone, including photos, messages and apps.
Only do this after everything above has failed. If you have a backup, you can put your data back afterward. See our backup guide. If you want to keep your data and have no backup, call or text (720) 413-8150 first. There may be another way.
