Dropped Your Phone in Water? What to Do in the First Hour

⏱️ Do This Right Away

1. Turn it off. Don't keep checking if it works.
2. Don't charge it.
3. Take off the case and pull the SIM tray.
4. Dry the outside with a soft, lint-free cloth.
5. Hold it with the port facing down and tap gently.
6. Don't stick anything in the port unless you have experience and an ESD-safe tool.
7. Call or text us ahead, then bring it in.

🍚 Skip the Rice

Rice doesn't pull water out from inside a phone. It can leave dust and starch in the port. Apple's own support page says not to put a wet iPhone in a bag of rice, because small rice particles can damage it. Apple also says not to dry it with a heat source or compressed air, and not to push a cotton swab or paper towel into the port. See Apple's liquid-detection guide.

Water-resistant phones can still take on water, especially after a drop or an older repair.

🌊 Salt Water and Pool Water

Salt water and pool water are harder on phones than fresh water. If your phone went in the ocean or a pool, get it checked soon.
