🔊 Two Speakers, Two Problems

The earpiece speaker at the top is the one you hold to your ear on calls. The loudspeaker at the bottom plays music, videos, and speakerphone.

If calls are hard to hear but music is fine, it's likely the earpiece. If music is quiet or crackly, it's likely the loudspeaker.

🧰 What to Try First

  • Turn the volume up and check that Silent mode is off.
  • Take off your case and screen protector. They can cover the speaker.
  • Restart your phone.
  • Check that Bluetooth isn't sending sound to headphones.

⚡ Get your sound back.

🧹 Dirt, Lint, and Water

Speaker openings collect lint and dust. Water can also make speakers sound muffled. If your phone got wet, read Water-Damaged Phone? What to Do in the First Hour.

🔧 How We Fix It

We test both speakers and find the cause. Diagnostics are free with any repair. If a speaker has failed, we can replace the earpiece speaker or the loudspeaker.

See your model on our iPhone models and prices page.

Most repairs take about an hour once we start.

🎙️ Microphone Problems Are a Separate Repair

If people can't hear you on calls, or your videos record with no sound, the problem is usually a microphone, not a speaker. We repair microphones too, but it's a separate repair from the speakers.

iPhones have more than one microphone, and they come in different types and sit in different places in the phone. So we test first, find which mic is causing the problem, and quote that repair on its own.
