Screen Lines, Ghost Touch or Black Screen: What Each Means

San Diego Repair Guide • Screen Problems

Your screen tells you a lot when it acts up. Lines, taps you didn't make, or a black screen each point to a different problem. Here's how to read the signs.

⚡ Screen acting strange?

📏 Lines on the Screen

Green, pink, or white lines usually mean the display panel is failing. A drop or pressure is a common cause.

👻 Ghost Touch

Ghost touch is when your phone taps, types, or swipes on its own. It can open apps or send texts you never meant to send.

  • A cracked or damaged screen is a common cause.
  • A low-quality replacement screen can cause it too.
  • A thick case or screen protector that presses on the edges can also trigger it.

Try taking off the case and screen protector, then restart. If the ghost taps keep coming, the screen likely needs replacing.

⬛ Black Screen

A black screen does not always mean a broken screen. Sometimes the phone is still on. You may hear sounds, feel vibrations, or get calls.

  • Charge it for a while, then try a force restart.
  • If it rings or vibrates but shows nothing, the display may have failed.
  • If it shows no signs of life at all, it could be the battery, charging, or something else.
