Selling Or Trading In Your Phone? How To Wipe It Safely (And When A Repair Raises Its Value)
iPhone: The Right Order
- Back it up.
- Unpair your Apple Watch (this backs up the watch, too).
- Sign out of your Apple Account: Settings > [your name] > Sign Out. This turns off Find My and Activation Lock. If Stolen Device Protection asks for a 1-hour wait, see this guide.
- Erase: Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Erase All Content and Settings.
- Remove the SIM, and transfer or delete your eSIM.
- Remove it from your device list at account.apple.com.
Android: The Right Order
- Back it up to Google.
- Remove your Google account in Settings (look under Accounts) before the factory reset. That avoids Factory Reset Protection locking the next owner out.
- Samsung: also remove your Samsung account.
- Factory reset.
Will A Repair Raise Its Trade-In Value?
Sometimes. A cracked screen often drops a phone into a much lower trade-in grade. Compare:
- the trade-in offer as-is,
- the offer if it were undamaged,
- and the repair price. For trade-ins, our Budget screens (select iPhones) are the lowest-cost way to get it working.
