Guide 3h · Screen
After a screen repair with a part that isn't made by Apple, iPhone 11 and later (except SE models) show an "Unknown Part" message. It's harmless, but some people would rather not see it. Our plug-and-play screens are built to avoid that message without moving any chips from your old screen. It's our top aftermarket option.

🔓 What Plug-and-Play Means
When a new screen goes into a recent iPhone, iOS checks whether it's a factory part. Most aftermarket screens trigger an "Unknown Part" message under Settings unless a technician moves a chip from the old screen. Plug-and-play screens are built to remove that screen replacement message with no chip transfer, so your old screen doesn't have to survive the repair.
Since iOS 18.1, Apple lets True Tone turn on with third-party screens without programming (iPhone 8 and later), though color may be less exact than Apple's. Plug-and-play only clears the "Unknown" notice. We test True Tone before you leave. Apple's own Repair Assistant (Settings > General > About > Parts & Service History) is designed to calibrate parts iOS recognizes, so we don't promise an aftermarket screen will show as factory there. If that matters to you, ask us about our Premium option in the Parts Quality Guide.
We're at 4515 Texas St, on the North Park and Normal Heights border near Adams Ave, a short trip from University Heights, Kensington, and City Heights.
📱 What You'll See in Settings After a Screen Repair
Apple keeps device information for each iPhone, including its parts and service history. Apple parts are calibrated at the factory, and that data is stored on Apple's servers. After a repair, Apple's Repair Assistant downloads it to finish the job, which is why Apple-supplied parts pair cleanly.
Since iOS 18, a used Apple part from another iPhone of the same model can also be calibrated on iPhone 15 and later, as long as it isn't locked to someone else's Apple Account. Settings shows it as "Used."
On iPhone 11 and later (except SE models), a replacement screen that isn't an Apple part will usually show as "Unknown" in Settings > General > About > Parts and Service History. That's normal. Apple says these messages don't affect your ability to use your iPhone, though an Unknown part might lower trade-in value. Plug-and-play screens are built to avoid the notice. Watch Out For Extreme Prices (My Opinion)
If you were sold a thicker LCD-style replacement screen (the economy type) and paid over $200, you probably got taken advantage of. Across every iPhone model I fix, my LCD screens cost well under that, installed. If a quote seems high, call or text me for a second opinion. – Steve

🤔 Do I Need Premium?
For most people, no. Our Premium tier is our top-tier option, and it's quote-only because the manufacturer's pricing is high. You only need it if you want parts that iOS recognizes in your iPhone's settings. That mainly comes down to two cases:
- Face ID Repairs: Face ID is a biometric sensor, so it only works with factory parts paired to your iPhone.
- Recognized Batteries: They're the only batteries that show battery health in iOS.
✅ Our Recommendation: Standard
Other than that, a good-quality Standard part performs the same as Premium for everyday use, without the manufacturer's price tag. Standard is the choice we recommend for most repairs, and Economy is there if you just need a solid, budget-friendly fix. Every screen comes with a 1-year warranty against defects on undamaged parts.
