Guide 4c · Battery & Charging
iPhone How-To Guide • BatteryPhone stuck at 80% on the charger? It's probably doing that on purpose. Here is how the Charge Limit works and how to change it.
Works on: Charge Limit is on iPhone 15 and newer. iPhone 14 and older have Optimized Battery Charging only. That part is covered below.
How To Change The Charge Limit
- Open Settings.
- Tap Battery.
- Tap Charging.
- Pick a limit from 80% to 100%. The choices go up in steps of 5%.
What You'll Notice
- The phone stops a little short of the limit. That's normal.
- If the level drops more than 5% while plugged in, it starts charging again.
- Now and then it charges to 100% on purpose. This keeps the battery reading accurate.
- At 100%, you can also turn on Optimized Battery Charging.
iPhone 14 And Older
- Open Settings and tap Battery.
- Tap Battery Health & Charging. (On iOS 15 and older it is just called Battery Health.)
- Turn Optimized Battery Charging on or off.
With this on, the phone may pause at 80% overnight and finish before you usually unplug. A note on the Lock Screen shows when it will be full. Touch and hold it, then tap Charge Now if you need it sooner.
Still not charging past a low level with these off? The port or battery may need a look. See our battery health guide.
