iPhone Battery Health Says Service? What It Means
Where To Look
- iPhone 15 and later: Settings > Battery > Battery Health.
- iPhone 14 and earlier: Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging. (Apple Support 120745)
What "Service" Means
If you see Service next to Battery Health, Apple suggests considering a battery replacement to restore full performance and capacity. (Apple Support 120745) When health has dropped a lot, the Battery Health screen also shows a message that your battery's health is significantly degraded. (Apple Support 101575)
Is It Safe?
Apple says this message doesn't indicate a safety issue, and you can keep using the battery. You may notice more battery and performance issues, though. (Apple Support 101575)
Why Batteries Wear Out
All rechargeable batteries age chemically and hold less charge over time. Apple says iPhone 14 and earlier batteries are designed to keep 80% of their capacity at 500 full charge cycles under ideal conditions, and iPhone 15 batteries at 1000 cycles. (Apple Support 101575) An aging battery can also make the phone feel slower. See our post on iPhone slowdowns and battery health.
Replacing It
