Guide 4b · Battery & Charging
Self-Fix Guide • Battery DrainBattery running down faster than it used to? Check your settings first. Often one app or setting is the cause.
Works on: Every iPhone on a recent iOS.
Step 1: See What's Using Battery
- Open Settings and tap Battery.
- Look at the list of apps. Tap an app to see how long it ran on screen and in the background.
One app uses a lot in the background? Update it, or delete and reinstall it.
Step 2: Limit Background App Refresh
- Open Settings, tap General, then Background App Refresh.
- Turn it off for apps that don't need to update in the background.
Step 3: Lower Brightness
Turn brightness down in Control Center, or let Auto-Brightness do it. It's in Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size.
Step 4: Turn On Low Power Mode
Open Settings > Battery and turn on Low Power Mode. It cuts back on background activity until you charge. You'll see the battery icon turn yellow.
Step 5: Update iOS
Open Settings > General > Software Update and install anything shown.
Step 6: Check Battery Health
If settings don't help, the battery itself may be worn. Our battery health guide shows you how to check.
