How To Pack And Ship Your Device For Repair
How to pack a phone, tablet or watch for mail-in repair so it arrives safely.
Quick Checklist
- Get your ticket number first: call or text (720) 413-8150
- Back up your device
- Remove your case, screen protector and SIM card
- Power it off
- Bag it, wrap it and box it with about 2 inches of padding
- Put a note inside with your ticket number, name and phone number
- Mark the box for lithium batteries (see below)
- Ship with tracking, and text us your tracking number at (720) 413-8150
What To Send
- Send only the device. Keep your charger, cable, case, stylus and SIM tool unless we ask for them.
- iPad with a Pencil? Keep the Pencil at home.
- Apple Watch: take off the band.
What Not To Send
- A device with a swollen, puffy or leaking battery. Signs include a screen lifting off the frame, a back that bulges or a device that rocks on a table. Carriers prohibit damaged lithium batteries in the mail. Call or text us and we'll talk through your options.
- Loose batteries.
- Cash, gift cards or anything else valuable.
Battery And Labeling Rules (Plain English)
Phones, tablets and watches have lithium-ion batteries. For used or damaged devices sent by USPS:
- Ground transportation only. Use USPS Ground Advantage, not Priority Mail or Priority Mail Express, because those can travel by air.
- Mark the address side of the box "Restricted Electronic Device" and "Surface Mail Only."
UPS, FedEx and other carriers have their own rules, so check with your carrier before you ship.
Packing Step By Step
- Power off. If the screen is broken and you can't, it's okay to send it as is. Just tell us when you get your ticket.
- Bag it. Put the device in a zip bag to keep it clean and catch any glass.
- Wrap it. Two layers of bubble wrap. For an iPad, add a piece of flat cardboard on each side.
- Box it. Use a small, sturdy box, not a padded envelope, with about 2 inches of padding on every side.
- Add your note. Ticket number, name and phone number.
- Seal and mark. Tape every seam and add any battery markings your carrier requires.
- Ship. Keep the receipt with your tracking number.
