How Mail-In Phone Repair Works (And Is It Safe?)
If the nearest repair shop you trust is hours away, or you just don't have time to drive, mail-in repair can be the easiest way to get your phone fixed. Here's how it works, start to finish, and how to tell a careful mail-in service from a risky one.
The Basic Steps
- You open a ticket. You give your model, the problem and your return address, and get a ticket number.
- You ship it. Phones have lithium batteries, and USPS requires used devices to go by ground service, not air.
- The shop checks it in. A careful shop photographs the box and the device before starting.
- You get a quote. You get the fault, your options and the price. Nothing should be repaired until you approve.
- They repair and test it.
- You pay, and it ships back with tracking.
Is It Safe?
Mail-in repair is safe when three things are true:
- The package is tracked, and ideally insured. Know who handles a claim if it's lost.
- The shop documents condition on arrival. Photos protect you and the shop.
- You get a written quote before work starts. "We'll just fix it" isn't good enough.
Red Flags
- No address or phone number you can call
- No written terms for lost packages or declined repairs
- Fast-turnaround promises that ignore shipping and parts
- Asking for your passcode on a web form
How We Do It At Franchitti's Fix
- Photo check-in for every package
- A written quote with Budget (select iPhone screens), Economy, Standard or Premium options
- No work until you approve
- $35 diagnostic fee, credited toward the repair if we do the repair. If it can't be repaired, return shipping comes out of the $35 and we refund the rest.
- You pay shipping both ways with any tracked carrier, and insurance is your choice
- 1-year warranty against defects on undamaged parts
Before You Ship
Back up your phone, take off the case and SIM, and power it off. Never ship a phone with a swollen battery. Read the full packing guide and how mail-in works step by step.
