🧰 Try These First
- Restart your iPhone.
- Update iOS in Settings > General > Software Update.
- Clean the top of the screen. Dirt or a smudge can block the sensors.
- Take off any case or screen protector that covers the notch or top edge.
- Go to Settings > Face ID & Passcode and tap Reset Face ID, then set it up again.
If Face ID works again, you're done. If you see "Face ID is not available" or "Unable to activate Face ID on this iPhone," it's likely a hardware problem.
🔍 Common Causes
- Liquid damage. Water can short the sensor parts near the earpiece.
- A past screen repair. The sensor flex is fragile. A rushed screen swap can tear it.
- A drop. Impact can damage the sensors or knock them out of line.
- A cracked screen over the sensors. Damage at the top edge can block them.
