iPhone Has No Sound? Settings To Check Before A Repair

Guide 6a · Sound & Mic

Self-Fix Guide • Sound

No sound from your iPhone? Before you assume the speaker is broken, check these quick things. Go in order.

Works on: Every iPhone. The silent switch or Action button step depends on your model. Our stuck on silent guide covers it.

Step 1: Turn Off Silent Mode

Follow our stuck on silent guide. Then come back here if you still hear nothing.

Step 2: Turn Off Do Not Disturb

  1. Open Settings and tap Focus.
  2. Tap Do Not Disturb and make sure it's off.

Step 3: Disconnect Bluetooth

Sound may be going to earbuds or a car. Open Control Center and turn Bluetooth off for a moment. Then test again.

Step 4: Remove The Case And Clean The Openings

  1. Take off the case and any screen protector.
  2. Look at the speaker holes at the bottom and the slot at the top of the screen.
  3. If they're dirty, brush them gently with a small, soft, dry brush.

Step 5: Test The Speaker

  1. Open Settings and tap Sounds & Haptics.
  2. Drag the Ringtone and Alerts slider back and forth.

You hear sound: the speaker works. If calls are still quiet or crackly, try again in another spot. It may be signal. No sound, or the slider is gray: the speaker likely needs a repair. I can check it.
