iPhone Ghost Touch? Check Your Case And Screen Protector First

Guide 3a · Screen

Self-Fix Guide • Ghost Touch

Is your iPhone opening apps or typing by itself? That's called ghost touch. Before you replace the screen, rule out the simple causes.

Works on: Every iPhone.

Step 1: Clean And Dry The Screen

Water, sweat or grease can register as touches. Wipe the screen with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth.

Step 2: Remove The Screen Protector

A cracked or bubbled protector is a common cause. Peel it off slowly and test the phone for a few minutes.

Step 3: Remove The Case

A tight or bent case can press on the edges of the screen. Take it off and test again.

Step 4: Unplug The Charger

Some cheap chargers and cables cause ghost touches while plugged in. Unplug it. If the problem stops, try a different charger.

Step 5: Force Restart

Use the guide for your phone: iPhone 8, SE (2nd/3rd gen) and Face ID models, iPhone 7, or iPhone 6s and older.

Step 6: Update iOS

Open Settings > General > Software Update and install anything shown.

Still Tapping On Its Own?

Then it's likely the screen itself, especially after a drop or a past screen replacement. I can check it and give you options.
