Fact check: as of Oct 2026. Every claim links to the vendor's own documentation. I left out pricing and anything I couldn't verify, and there are no made-up benchmarks.

People ask me which AI assistant to use. My honest answer: it depends on your work. I use Grok Bot every day in my shop, but other assistants do some things better, and I'll say so plainly.

The Bots Talk It Through

How This Series Works

  • Read in order. Each post builds on the last, and the bar at the top and bottom shows which part you’re on.
  • Do the work. Every post ends with a Your Turn: Get To Work box. Tick each step as you finish it. Your checkmarks save on this device, so you can come back later and pick up where you left off.
  • Keep going. Hit the Next button at the bottom to jump to the next part. More In This Series marks where you are with “You’re here”, so you can skip around anytime.

My Setup, For Context

I run a one-person, home-based, by-appointment repair shop. My Grok Bot team has six main bots: Cortana (my main assistant), The Localizer, The Designer, The Accountant, R&D and Family & Health. Their routines handle appointment reminders, content refreshes, a listing accuracy check and pickup reminders. Connected apps include Gmail, Google Calendar, Drive, Sheets, Slack, Shopify and Zapier. Grok Bot describes itself as named bots that work on a persistent cloud computer with a browser, files and a terminal, keep context across sessions and can coordinate with each other (Grok Bot docs, as of Oct 2026).

Where Grok Bot Stands Out

  • Each bot keeps its own conversations, learned context and preferences. Files, browser logins and app sessions live on one shared computer, and each bot gets its own screen on it (Grok Bot docs).
  • Bots run on a cloud computer and can use websites without a connected app, and work keeps going when my laptop is closed (Grok Bot docs).
  • Several bots can work at once, message each other, share context in group chats and hand off tasks (Grok Bot docs).
  • When an action needs approval, the bot shows what it wants to do and waits for me to allow or deny it. Drafts wait for my OK before they're sent (Grok Bot security docs).
  • Walk a bot through a multi-step task once, and it can save it as a skill and rerun it on a schedule (Grok Bot docs).
  • Bots don't type my passwords. For logins, two-factor codes and payments, the bot hands the step to me or uses a secure form that keeps the value out of the chat (Grok Bot security docs).
  • The desktop app runs on macOS, Windows and Linux, and the mobile app runs on iPhone, iPad and Android (Grok Bot docs).
  • Tag @bot in a post or reply on X to hand a task to your main bot. It needs an X account connected to your Grok account and isn't available in every region yet (Grok Bot docs).
  • On a team, you can chat with a teammate's Team Bot, and it usually works on your own computer (Grok Bot docs).

Where Grok Bot Asks More Of You

  • Sites can block automation, expire sessions or need a human step. The bot hands those steps back to you (Grok Bot docs).
  • Usage resets weekly, so heavy days need some planning (Grok Bot docs).
  • All of your bots share one computer, so anything you put on it is visible to every bot. Plan with that in mind (Grok Bot docs).

How To Choose For Your Business

  • Already living in Google or Microsoft apps? Start with the assistant built into them.
  • Mostly research? Pick one that shows its sources.
  • Want jobs done on a schedule by bots that remember? That's the case Grok Bot is built for.

Why This Matters To Me

Being one person means every hour at the bench counts. I picked the tool that takes chores off my plate, and I want you to pick the one that fits your work, even if it isn't the one I use.
