Highlights

What matters most about this model — at a glance.

Display

  • Retina HD True Tone Chassis: The crisp 5.5-inch widescreen Retina HD display integrates an advanced ambient light sensor to drive True Tone performance, balancing the on-screen white point dynamically to match surrounding lighting conditions.

Battery & power

  • First-Generation Magnetic Wireless: The internal power layout is re-engineered with an integrated inductive copper wireless coil backplate, supporting universal Qi-standard wireless charging stations alongside traditional fast-charging options.

Camera

  • Landscape Dual-Portrait Engine: Combining a dedicated wide-angle lens with an optical-zoom telephoto lens, it uses advanced computational photography to process hardware-level Portrait Mode and adjustable Portrait Lighting effects.

Performance & AI

  • Intelligent A11 Bionic Silicon: Equipped with the A11 Bionic system architecture, this chip splits workloads across high-performance and high-efficiency cores, maximizing gaming processing while conserving battery power.

Build & thermal

  • High-Gloss Glass Housing Arrival: Moving away from the aluminum unibody backplates of previous generations, this model introduces a premium, multi-layer high-gloss rear glass structure fused directly into a color-matched 7000 Series aluminum frame.

Tech truths

Screen Compatibility: A major customer misconception about the iPhone 8 Plus is that its display panel assembly can be swapped with the older iPhone 7 Plus because both share a 5.5-inch screen footprint. While they look identical on the outside, the top-bracket chassis hooks and the physical logic board display connector pins are completely inverted. Trying to clamp an iPhone 7 Plus display onto an 8 Plus board can bend or crack the logic board pin socket pins.

Back Glass Construction: The iPhone 8 Plus is the first large-format generation to feature a glass back panel, which is permanently fused with commercial-strength structural epoxy directly to the inner metal subframe. Replacing this rear glass independently takes high heat, a repair laser, or a housing swap. Additionally, the lower bracket of the glass sits underneath the camera frame ring, requiring the outer camera bracket bezel to be cut or shaved away during standalone glass replacements.

Home Button Pairing: The home button on the iPhone 8 Plus is not a physical moving click button; it is a solid-state glass capacitive node driven by an internal Taptic Engine. If a technician rips or micro-tears the home button flex ribbon cable running along the back of the display during a screen replacement, the Touch ID security encryption and the virtual clicking response will fail entirely. The button must remain perfectly pristine to preserve secure validation and baseline navigation functions.

Back Glass Done Right: Shops that skip prep finish a back glass job in about an hour and leave glue residue behind. We clean the frame, protect the parts inside, and reseal the new glass with fresh adhesive, so the repair takes a few hours and holds up the way it should.
