What To Do Before You Mail Your iPhone For Repair
Ten minutes of prep keeps your data safe and makes your mail-in repair go smoothly.
1. Back It Up
Use iCloud or a computer. Here's how to back up before a repair.
2. Find My
Leave Find My on unless we ask you to change it when we give you your ticket number. Read about iOS 27 Ready For Repair and Stolen Device Protection, in case Find My won't turn off.
3. Wallet And Apple Pay
Your cards stay protected by your passcode and Face ID. If you'd feel better, remove them in Wallet and add them back after.
4. SIM Or eSIM
- Physical SIM: take it out and keep it.
- eSIM: leave it on the phone. If you need your number on another phone while yours is away, see moving your number off an eSIM iPhone.
5. Two-Factor Codes
If your iPhone is your only trusted device for an account, set up another way to get codes before you ship: a family member's phone, a computer or backup codes.
6. Passcode
Don't write your passcode on a note in the box, and don't put it on any form. If we need it to test something, we'll call or text you.
7. Write Down What's Wrong
For example: "Screen cracked; Face ID worked before the drop; battery health 79%." It helps us test the right things.
8. Keep At Home
Your charger, cable, case and screen protector.
9. Pack And Ship
Follow the packing guide. Ship with tracking, and don't ship a swollen battery.
