Water-Damaged Phone? What to Do in the First Hour (Skip the Rice)

San Diego Repair Guide • Water Damage

Pool, ocean, toilet, or a spilled drink. The first hour after your phone gets wet matters most. Do these steps now, and skip the bag of rice.

⚡ Phone just got wet? Call us now.

Franchitti's Fix is at 4515 Texas St (92116), open 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM daily. Call or text (720) 413-8150, book an appointment, or send us a message.

⏱️ Do This Right Now

  1. Power it off. Don't keep checking if it works.
  2. Don't charge it. Power plus water speeds up corrosion.
  3. Take off the case and pull the SIM tray.
  4. Gently dry the outside with a lint-free cloth.
  5. Hold it port-down and tap lightly to let water drain.
  6. Call us and bring it in.

🍚 Why You Should Skip the Rice

Rice doesn't pull water out of the inside of a phone. It can leave dust and starch in the charging port, and it wastes time while corrosion starts on the board. Even water-resistant phones like the iPhone 13 or Samsung Galaxy S23 can take on water, especially after a drop or an older repair.

We're at 4515 Texas St, on the North Park and Normal Heights border near Adams Ave, a short trip from University Heights, Kensington, and City Heights.

⚡ Every minute counts with water damage.

🌊 Salt Water and Pool Water

San Diego means beach days. Salt water and pool chemicals are harder on electronics than fresh water. If your iPhone 14 went into the ocean at Mission Beach, get it to a shop as soon as you can.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Should I Put My Wet Phone in Rice?

No. Rice doesn't dry the inside of a phone and can leave residue in the ports. Power it off and bring it in.

Can a Water-Damaged Phone Be Fixed?

Often, yes, especially if it was turned off quickly and not charged. We inspect it and tell you what can be saved.

Is My iPhone Waterproof?

iPhones are water-resistant, not waterproof. Resistance wears down with age, drops, and past repairs.

Tell us if data matters most. We'll focus on getting the phone running long enough to back it up when possible.
